Other notable achievements:
Environmental Remediation division
- 60 Permit reviews/approvals (including amendments) for 2024 related to PHAI remediation work.
- Over 150 MPH property design drawings and related reports.
- Approved drilling for subsurface investigations – over 300 road sections.
Water and Wastewater divisions
- Lake Street Trunk Sewer Replacement: replaced steel trunk sewer initially installed in 1958 and a WWTP flow dispersion chamber.
- Clarifier Replacement Project: replaced all clarifier chains, flights, mechanical, and electrical components.
- Hope Street Pumping Station: replaced 1/2 ton crane and hoist system, plus safety hatches and railings.
- Walton Street Reconstruction: replacement of failing wastewater sewer main.
- Aeration Tank #2: cleaning and air distribution repairs.
- Industrial, commercial, and institution water meters mostly changed out, resulting in accurate meter reads for our highest consumption user groups.
- Low lift pump refurbishment.
- Highland Drive project: Installed approximately 630 meters of 300mm PVC watermain and 30 meters of 150mm PVC watermain to ensure adequate fire flows to the Jack Burger Sports Complex.

The Environmental Services Department is crucial for the sustainable development and maintenance of our community's physical infrastructure and services, impacting the quality of life for our residents and ensuring the functionality of public assets. We are responsible for a broad range of infrastructure projects and maintenance operations, including water treatment and distribution, as well as wastewater collection and treatment, while adhering to all applicable provincial acts, regulations and approvals. We are also involved with environmental remediation coordination efforts with the Port Hope Area Initiative.
