Submit comments in writing
How do I submit comments in writing? |
Submit your comments to Council regarding municipal matters by emailing the Clerk or to the attention of the Clerk's Office at 56 Queen Street, Port Hope, Ontario, L1A 3Z9.
Written comments received by the Clerk will be provided to Council members through a weekly Council Information Index. You may also contact Council Members directly by email, find contact information on our Council webpage. If you are submitting comments regarding a matter on an upcoming Council or Committee agenda, please ensure you note the Item Number and the date of the meeting. |
Meet with a member of Council
How can I meet with Council? |
Connect with Council Members by phone or set up a meeting. To find contact information for Council Representatives, view our Council webpage. To schedule a meeting with the Mayor, please contact the Executive Assistant. Please note that contacting through phone and email is considered an informal channel and may not be referred to during Council's decision making process. |
Submit a question at a meeting
How do I submit a question to Council? |
Question Period occurs during Committee of the Whole and Council meetings. During Question Period, members of the Public and Media may address Council to make informal inquiries on matters of municipal business. Question Period is for questions/inquiries only, and not an opportunity to provide comment on municipal matters. There are no obligations on Council to respond or action items related to a question asked during Question Period. If you ask a question during Question Period, your name and general nature of the question will be noted in the minutes of the meeting. In order to ask a question during Question Period, attendees must attend the meeting in person. |
Public Comment Period at Council
How do I provide comments to Council on a topic already on the agenda? |
Important: Comments can be made during Public Comment Period only if the topic is already on the agenda. If it is not on the agenda, please use a different method to connect with council. The purpose of the Public Comment Period is to allow members of the public to address specific items that are on the agenda for that particular Council meeting. It's an opportunity for community members to participate in the decision-making process and communicate directly with Council on matters within its jurisdiction. To make public comments, please ensure you complete the sign-in sheet in Council Chambers.

Make a delegation at a Council meeting
How do I schedule a delegation at a Council meeting? |
Important: Delegations can only be made at Council meetings. Delegations help inform Council members about specific issues, projects, or initiatives in the Municipality, and aide them in making well-informed decisions that align with the needs and interests of the community. To make a Delegation, submit the Delegation Request Form and all accompanying presentation materials to the Clerk no later than 4:30 p.m., the Wednesday prior to the scheduled Council Meeting date.

Submit a petition to Council
How do I submit a petition to Council? |
Petitions are a way for residents to communicate their opinions to members of Council and bring attention to a matter of public interest or concern that is within the authority of the Council. All petitions submitted to the Clerk for circulation to Council must adhere to the Petition Policy.
If the petition meets the requirements of the Petition Policy and/or any other related Municipality policies, the request conveyed in the petition will be considered by the Committee of the Whole or Council for disposition. The Municipality is not responsible for the accuracy or reliability of statements provided in the petition. |
