Highland Drive Intersection Closure – June 3
The Highland Drive Watermain Project is progressing ahead of schedule, and the underground work is complete meaning the road is now fully re-opened.
This week is focused on watermain disinfection and water sampling. As previously communicated, a second intersection closure is required to tie-in the new watermain to the existing system. This is scheduled to occur on June 3 at the intersection of Victoria Street North and Highland Drive. As a reminder, these infrastructure upgrades are essential for providing sufficient water pressure for fire suppression in the area. Once the tie-in work is completed, the new fire hydrants will become operational.
Jack Burger Closure – June 4
The Jack Burger Sports Complex will be closed for the morning on Tuesday, June 4 to accommodate the tie-in of the new lines to the building. As a result, the morning swim (from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.), along with Aquafit, Aqua Easy, and both sets of lessons, will be canceled to accommodate this construction. Registered patrons have already been informed of these changes. If you plan on attending the Lane or Family swim at 10:45 a.m., please call ahead to confirm.
Final stages of project completion – June and July
The final work for the project includes sidewalk and curb remediation, old watermain abandonment, and asphalt installation. To completely decommission the old watermain, a temporary water shutdown along Victoria Street North (from Fraser Street to Highland Drive) is needed for safe plugging of the old main. This process also requires an intersection shutdown. These dates will be communicated when they are finalized.
The final road restoration is scheduled to begin in July after the school year ends, with contractor selection still pending. This work may lead to partial or full road closures, with more precise timelines to be confirmed by late June.
More details on timing of these closures will be communicated when they become available.
