Update on the Highland Drive Watermain Project
Update 5/15/2024:
The intersection is now open more information on the noted second closure (for connecting to the existing water distribution system) will be released when available.
The Municipality provides the following update regarding the Highland Drive Watermain project.
Upcoming Intersection Closure: Highland Drive and Victoria Street North:
Watermain installation is scheduled to take place at the intersection of Highland Drive and Victoria Street North starting Monday, May 13, weather permitting. The length of time required to complete the work is subject to conditions in the field. The intersection will be fully closed during this time and will reopen as soon as possible following backfilling, once it is safe to do so.
Detour Routes for Intersection Closure:
Traffic along Victoria Street will be rerouted via a detour to Fraser Street, Trefusis Street, and Percival Street, in both directions. Exercise caution when traveling during school hours, as many school-aged children will be crossing the streets.
Access Arrangements:
Residents will continue to have access to their homes within the closure area.
Those travelling to Port Hope High School will continue to have access to both entrances on Victoria Street North.
The school’s entrances on Highland Drive will remain accessible via Cavan Street to Highland Drive, as outlined in the current detour.
Staff have communicated closure plans to schools in the area that may be impacted by traffic detours.
School bus operators have been informed of the closure and have made plans to accommodate using the detour route.
Upcoming Closures:
This intersection closure will occur twice in the next two weeks: once for installation and commissioning, and a second time for connecting to the existing water distribution system. Dates are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
Further Restoration:
Asphalt paving will occur after the school season concludes. Restoration of sidewalks, curbs, and grass will continue over the next month or two.
The project is progressing multiple weeks ahead of schedule. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this crucial infrastructure upgrade.
