2023 'Mayors' Keep the County Clean' Challenge
Northumberland County has once again called on each municipality to participate in the ‘Mayors’ Keep the County Clean’ challenge – a friendly week-long litter clean-up event beginning April 17, 2023.
Litter clean-up can take place in our public spaces, including at the beaches, along the Ganaraska River paths, on our trails, at our parks and other green spaces.
Volunteers can register to participate by calling 905-753-2230 or by email. Individuals or groups will receive a kit that contains a safety vest, gloves, garbage bags and safety information.
During the clean-up, full bags of garbage can be left roadside and will be picked up by municipal staff. Volunteers are asked to ensure that the bags are placed well back from the road, for the safety of drivers and volunteers.
Large, hazardous, or dangerous items are not to be touched. Each kit will have a reporting sheet for these types of materials. Completed reporting sheets can be returned to staff at 5 Mill Street South and the items will be collected by staff.
