Winter Storm Update
Residents are advised of the following winter storm updates:
- The Municipality is aware of wind damage to buildings throughout the community, including damage to municipal infrastructure.
- There has been significant roof damage to the Water Treatment Plant at 35 Marsh Street. There is no impact to the drinking water system and staff are taking steps to repair the damage when safe to do so. Staff will also be on site 24/7 to maintain operations as necessary.
- Staff have responded to numerous trees down in both the rural and urban areas with the assistance of external tree service providers when necessary. Trees across municipal roadways and sidewalks have been addressed as quickly as possible on a priority basis.
- Conditions are anticipated to improve slightly overnight but higher than usual winds will continue.
- A reminder that for urgent services related to water or roads, call 905-885-2431 and press * to reach our after-hours emergency line. If your situation is life-threatening, dial 911.
- To report an issue that is not urgent (snow maintenance, streetlight out, tree inspection, etc.), use our Report an Issue form.
- Staff have been out in full force responding to emergency calls and providing winter maintenance in difficult conditions, despite the holiday. The Municipality would like to thank maintenance staff, emergency responders, and those residents assisting neighbours during this Significant Weather Event.
Safety Reminders
- Leave roads clear of parked vehicles to ensure winter maintenance can be provided. Vehicles on the road during severe weather conditions pose danger to themselves as well as impede the ability of crews to complete important maintenance activities.
- A reminder to residents to avoid non-essential travel when possible due to drifting snow conditions and continued high winds.
- Do not use your oven or propane and other fuel-fired portable heaters to heat your home. If you are without heat and operating a generator, only use approved heating devices in the manner they are intended to be used.
- Make sure your home has a working carbon monoxide detector. If it is hard-wired to the house's electrical supply, ensure it has a battery-powered back-up.
- Due to drifting snow conditions, ensure that you clear furnace or heating system exhaust vents from snow drifts and or ice build up to prevent Carbon Monoxide build-up.
