Phase 1 of the Walton Street project is now complete for 2022. The final lift of asphalt and the correction of any deficiencies will be completed in 2023.
Phase 2 of the project, which includes full road reconstruction from Pine Street to Mill Street, is subject to budget approval and will be considered by Council as part of the 2023 budget deliberations.
As a result of supply chain delays and material shortages, construction timelines have been adjusted and work on Phase 2 will not begin in April 2023, as originally planned.
The project is expected to be tendered in spring 2023, with initial work starting in early September and finishing by December 1, 2023. Road closures and significant construction disruptions related to Phase 2 will not occur throughout the summer. The majority of the construction work will take place in 2024.
The construction schedule and details about the work will be shared publicly and directly with affected businesses after the construction contract is awarded, and well ahead of the start of the work. An extensive communication and engagement plan for the duration of the project will be in place.
