Transit Changes to Accommodate Phase 3 of the Walton Street Reconstruction
With the upcoming closure of Walton Street (April 1, 2025) for phase 3 of the Walton Street Reconstruction Project, Transit Services will be implementing route changes beginning Monday, March 31, 2025, and will continue until the completion of the Walton Street Reconstruction project in the fall.
To ensure continued transit service, we have arranged for modified transit routes during this period. Please take note of the following changes:
Route A
When Route A departs Town Hall it will re-route around the road closure:
- The bus will turn north on Cavan Street, to South Street, to Pine Street.
- The bus will return to Walton Street via Pine Street.
On the return trip:
- The bus will turn south on Bramley Street South, then east onto Strachan Street (Gifford Street). A temporary stop will be set up on Strachan near Bramley.
- Next, the bus will turn south onto Pine Street, where another temporary stop will be placed on Pine near Gifford Street.
- The bus will then continue back to Town Hall via Robertson Street and Queen Street.
As a result, bus stops A33, A34, A35, and A36 will not be in service during the reconstruction.
Route B and Cobourg Express Shuttle
Route B and the Cobourg Express Shuttle are not affected by Phase 3 of the Walton Street Reconstruction.
A detailed look at the changes can be viewed on our interactive transit map when the change is in effect starting March 31.
These adjustments have been made to minimize disruption and inconvenience to our residents while ensuring that transit services remain accessible during the construction period.
Please note that the Municipality is reviewing the possibility of waiving in-town Transit fees during Phase 3 of the Walton Street Reconstruction project. Please stay tuned for more information.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation during this time. For further information or if you have any questions regarding the transit route changes, please don't hesitate to contact our Transit Services at 905-885-9891 or visit our website at porthope.ca/transit.
