Temporary Closure of Cavan Street
Please be informed that starting Tuesday, February 21, Cavan Street will be partially closed to traffic due to safety measures. The closure affects the section between Highland Drive and Bedford Street, though local and transit access will remain open from Highland Drive to Craig Street.
This precautionary step is due to structural integrity concerns with the west exterior wall of the File Factory building on Cavan Street. To ensure public safety, the Municipality has issued an Order under the Ontario Building Code Act mandating immediate corrective actions from the property owner.
Closure duration and detours
- The road closure is expected to last for approximately two weeks as a thorough safety and engineering assessment is being conducted. The closure will be re-assessed at that time and an update will be provided to the community.
- Detour routes for vehicles have been established and are clearly marked on-site, directing traffic from Highland Drive to Victoria Street North to Yeovil/Bedford Street.
- Pedestrians and trail users can still access the sidewalk trail connection on the west side of Cavan Street, between Craig Street and Bedford Street.
- Municipal Transit services will not be affected by this closure.

Community updates
The Municipality will provide an update on the situation and road reopening once the building assessment is complete, and it is safe to resume normal traffic flow.
Thank you for your patience and for adjusting your travel plans accordingly. For any concerns or inquiries, please feel free to email the Municipality.
