Spring Burn Permit Reminder
As spring clean-up begins, residents are remined that open air burning is prohibited in the urban area of Port Hope. This includes outdoor wood burning chimneys, screened fire bowls or containers, fire pits, and barrels. Urban residents are permitted to use natural gas or propane outdoor appliances, provided they are listed for use in Canada and are installed following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Property owners in the rural area can apply for a burn permit, with specific conditions, for any controlled burning. Those who are not the property owner, may apply for a burn permit but must submit written authorization from the property owner.
Applications for recreational and open-air permits may be completed using the online application form. If you do not have an email address, you can contact the Fire Administration Office by calling 905-753-2230. Please note, you must also contact the Fire Administration office to apply for an over sized burn permit.
