Snowfall Warning - January 25-26
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for our region, expected Wednesday (January 25) afternoon into Thursday morning. It is likely that significant, rapidly accumulating snowfall and low visibility will occur, with possible power outages.
Storm preparedness
Residents are reminded to be prepared for winter storms and power outages, which should include a plan and sufficient supplies to last for a minimum of 72 hours. Visit our emergency preparedness webpage for more information and suggestions on how you can prepare.
If you experience an extended power outage, the Jack Burger Sports Complex will be open during normal operating hours and can be accessed for use of shower and restroom facilities. Other amenities, such as the Town Park Recreation Centre and the Port Hope Public Library, can also be accessed during operating hours to charge cell phones and escape the cold.
Many local businesses will also allow you to charge your phone or devices during business hours, if needed.
Roads crews and emergency personnel will continue to provide services at their usual operating hours, unless otherwise communicated. As always, if you are in a life-threatening situation, call 911.

Electricity outage information is supplied by our providers Hydro One and Elexicon. To contact Hydro One by phone, call 1-800-434-1235 and for Elexicon, call 1-866-579-6819. Snow clearing reminders
A reminder that there is no on-street parking permitted on snow routes from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. so that our snowplows can clear the streets safely.
When the snow falls, snow clearing of the sidewalk outside your home is your responsibility. Please do not shovel the snow onto the street as that can interfere with road maintenance and safety.
How to help
- Please be patient while you wait for your street to be cleared.
- Reduce the height of the snowbank at the end of your property by shovelling snow back further onto your property - this improves visibility when entering or exiting your driveway.
- Pile snow on the right side of your driveway (as you face the street) so that cleared snow does not get moved back into your driveway by the snowplow
- Clear snow away from hydrants
- Clear snow away from catch basins.
- Place your garbage, green bin and recycling at ground level, with a clear path from the road.
- Remove snow accumulations around exit doors, stairways, fire escapes and furnace vents.
- Drive according to the conditions, give yourself extra time.
- Give plows plenty of room and remember they may have to back up.
