Update: Friday, January 28, 2022
The 'significant weather event' has been declared over. Standard timeline for road and sidewalk winter maintenance resumes as usual.
For Immediate Release
Monday, January 17, 2022 - Port Hope, ON
The Municipality of Port Hope has declared a significant weather event, due to heavy snowfall, as defined within the Minimum Maintenance Standards Regulation Ont 239/02.
Environment Canada and local police are advising all to postpone any non-essential travel until conditions improve. During the significant weather event, motorists, pedestrians, and residents are advised to use extra caution as the Municipality may not be able to meet its maintenance standards for roads and sidewalks due to the heavy snowfall.
The declaration will not change how or when the Municipality performs its winter maintenance operations. However, it may take staff longer than usual to bring the roads and sidewalks back to a state of repair. Snow removal priority will be given to arterial and collector roads. Public safety is the Municipality’s top priority.
Additionally, Transit Service will not be available after 4 p.m. this afternoon due to staff shortages for the evening transit shift. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
