Property Standards By-law Review
We are reviewing our Property Standards By-law. Property standards set the rules for how properties in Port Hope should be maintained. These rules help make sure that buildings, yards, and general cleanliness meet certain standards. We are making changes to better meet what our community needs now and to match what nearby towns are doing. The By-law covers aspects such as:
- Keeping grass short and maintaining yards
- Preventing litter or debris on properties
- Restricting parking of vehicles to designated areas, not on lawns
We have also added new components to the Property Standards By-law, including:
- Standards for maintaining heritage buildings
- Regulations on nuisance lighting
- Guidelines for shipping containers, and more.
Public engagement for this project is now underway. We're gathering feedback on the proposed changes outlined in the draft By-law.
