Organizational Changes Announced to Streamline Operations and Enhance Service Delivery

The Municipality of Port Hope is pleased to announce several organizational changes aimed at boosting efficiency, improving accountability, and making our services easier to navigate for our residents. These changes are designed to streamline operations and better serve our community. Notably, these improvements will be implemented without the need for additional tax levy funding.
Development Services
The Planning and Development department will now be known as Development Services. Effective immediately, the Building Services division will become part of Development Services, bringing customer service for Building, Planning, and Economic Development under one umbrella. All staff within Development Services will work out of the 5 Mill Street building.
Protective Services
Jason Williams, the Director of Protective Services, now also serves as Fire Chief. Protective Services will continue to include Port Hope Fire, Emergency Management, and the By-law Enforcement division. Effective July 22, By-law staff will move their offices to Fire Station 1 at 245 Ontario Street. Consequently, residents who wish to pay parking tickets in person will need to visit Fire Station 1, as payments will no longer be accepted at 5 Mill Street. Staff will assist residents throughout this transition to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery. As always, parking tickets can also be paid online, by mail (with a cheque or money order), or by dropping off payment at one of the many deposit boxes located throughout the downtown. Environmental Services
A new department, Environmental Services, will encompass the existing Environmental Remediation, Water, and Wastewater divisions. The new director position will be partially funded by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, as it will oversee the Municipality’s involvement in the ongoing PHAI project cleanup. Recruitment for this position will commence shortly, with the new director expected to start in September.

As part of the organizational changes, additional internal structure modifications have been made to improve the staff reporting framework and streamline accountability.
