One call for service that is common to all corners of Ontario is to help locate people that have become lost or stranded due to physical injury or mechanical breakdowns while in areas they may or may not be familiar with.
Northumberland County is home to a wonderful and diverse environment where we can enjoy the outdoors, both on land and water. Should you encounter a situation where you require assistance, by following a few tips, you can greatly increase your odds of receiving timely assistance in the event of an emergency:
- Research the area and plan a route.
- Tell someone where you are going and when you will be back.
- Check the weather forecast and wear appropriate clothing for the weather and terrain.
- Bring more food and water than you think you’ll need.
- Pack the sunscreen (and use it when needed).
- Take a fully charged cell phone with you. If the idea is to disconnect, leave the phone off, and activate it when needed.
- Have an app on your smart device, such as what3words app that can pinpoint your location in an emergency.
