Today, MPP David Piccini and Port Hope Mayor Olena Hankivsky were at the Town Park Recreation Centre to formally announce the news that the Municipality has received a $141,300 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario, for three outdoor pickleball courts in Port Hope. The all-new courts will be built by late summer and provide an exciting new way for local residents of all ages to keep active and stay connected with family and friends. A decision on the courts’ location will be made in the coming months.
“With this funding, everyone in our community will have a new, exciting way to stay active,” said MPP David Piccini. “Port Hope residents will benefit greatly from these new courts, and I’m looking forward to getting shovels in ground in the coming months.”
By providing the opportunity to play in Port Hope, residents will no longer need to travel to nearby communities for pickleball. The dedicated outdoor courts will be available seven days a week from dawn until dusk from May to October to address increasing demand for outdoor activities.
“We are thrilled to announce the addition of three new dedicated outdoor pickleball courts for our community and we thank the province for their generous support. The new courts will help us to continue to promote safe recreation and social engagement in the community, particularly for our older adult residents. We welcome this new addition to our recreation offerings and look forward to the grand opening of the new space later this year,” said Mayor Hankivsky of Port Hope.
