New Plaques on Athletic Wall of Honour Unveiled
In a small ceremony on November 18, 2021, the Municipality of Port Hope, in partnership with the PRC Advisory Committee unveiled the new honourees to the Athletic Wall of Honour. The Athletic Wall of Honour, located at the Jack Burger Sports Complex, is a community-driven initiative that celebrates the achievements of local athletes by preserving the stories and histories of sport in Port Hope.
“We have many talented residents in Port Hope” notes Julia Snoek, Director, Parks, Recreation and Culture at the Municipality of Port Hope. “Community programs such as this, allows us to recognize the hard work and dedication of these nominees. This recognition is important as sport and recreation builds stronger, happier, healthier and safer communities.”
The new honourees, now with plaques on the wall, are Murray Cawker, Jolyon Thompson, Dan Stewart, Jason Green, Dawn Watson, Lloyd Wootton, Billy Trew, Isaac Bouckley, and Brad Pemberton. Each new inductee is from the Port Hope community and have contributed their valuable time to the betterment of sport.
In addition to the plaques, the wall includes a display case of memorabilia highlighting athletic achievements and historic collectibles, and an interactive kiosk for research on sports history, articles, and digital photos and videos.
The Wall of Honour is currently open for submissions. Residents interested in nominating someone for the Wall of Honour or Volunteer Section of the kiosk can find more information on the nomination process and candidate criteria at porthope.ca/commemorative-programs.
