New Coinless Parking Option in Port Hope
Residents and visitors in Port Hope will soon have a coinless option for paid parking. The HotSpot Parking App launches on April 1 and will be available for all metered and pay and display parking machines within the Municipality. Drivers will have the option to pay for parking from their smart phone by downloading the free app on both apple and android devices.
“This new app makes parking easier and allows a diversified option for payments,” notes Bob Sanderson, Mayor Municipality of Port Hope. “By increasing the Municipality’s technological capabilities, we are making it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy the downtown.”
The introduction of this app does not affect the standard municipal parking rates or the current coin payment option. The app provides the added benefit of mobile alerts when time is almost up and a seamless option to extend time from your smartphone. If there is time leftover, drivers can apply the credit to their next trip or donate, through HotSpot, to the United Way.
HotSpot charges users a $0.25 fee per use with the option of a monthly membership for $2 a month or an annual membership of $20. These memberships are useful for frequent users who also visit neighbouring communities with HotSpot locations.
Please note, HotSpot does not service our electric charging stations. To learn more about the app and parking within the municipality, visit porthope.ca/parking.
