Municipality of Port Hope Pilots Rural ROLLS Specialized Transit Service
A new specialized transit service has hit the road in Port Hope, with the expansion of the Municipality’s ROLLS program into the rural area of the community.
The Municipality’s specialized transit service, in partnership with Community Care Northumberland, now provides door-to-door transportation to registered, eligible patrons living in the Rural area with accessibility-related needs through an advanced appointment system.
“Piloting the ROLLS transit service in the rural area of the Municipality seeks to meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable eligible residents who don’t otherwise have access to public transportation,” notes Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “Responsibly trialing the program until the end of the year allows staff to gather ridership data and provide Council with an informed and evidence-based report, prior to Council making any decisions on a potential permanent rural transit solution. I look forward to the launch of the program and commend staff on this provisional extension of service for our residents.”
The Rural ROLLS program will be operated by the Municipality on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
On Wednesdays and Thursdays, Community Care Northumberland, which is subsidized by the Municipality, provides service to eligible rural area residents. Information is available at commcare.ca
