Municipality of Port Hope Announces Departure of Chief Administrative Officer, David Smith

Today the Municipality of Port Hope announced that Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), David Smith has advised Council and staff of his resignation from the role to pursue a leadership position in another community. Mr. Smith has served as CAO for Port Hope since 2020.
"On behalf of Council and staff, I would like to sincerely thank David for his tremendous contributions to the community over the last three years, particularly his leadership while navigating the challenges presented by the pandemic,” stated Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “Among his many accomplishments, David was instrumental in the restructuring of the Protective Services Department as well as assisting with the recruitment of the Port Hope Police Chief. We wish David much continued success in his future endeavours.”
Under his leadership, several strategic projects were executed such as the Town Park Recreation Centre expansion project, the Port Hope Area Initiative project implementation, Phase 1 of the Walton Street reconstruction project and the negotiations related to the OPG lands at Wesleyville. Mr Smith also developed and implemented the Municipality’s first ever Organizational Effectiveness program and People Plan, which included the development of values and streamlined internal communications.
Mr. Smith thanked Council and staff for helping to create a positive workplace and collaborating on the delivery of many programs and projects. He noted,
"Port Hope Council and staff are leaders in accomplishing results, making our community an even better place to live, work and visit. I am proud to have been part of the team in Port Hope."
Mr. Smith will transition out of the role over the summer and the Municipality will begin working on a process for the recruitment of a new CAO. Information about the transition and recruitment process will be shared with the community as it becomes available in the coming weeks.
