Impacts of Canada Post Labour Disruption on Municipal Mail Services
The Municipality of Port Hope advises residents that incoming and outgoing regular mail is being affected by the current Canada Post labour disruption.
During this time, please take note of the alternative methods for payments and notifications outlined below:
Public Meeting Notices
- Residents within 120 metres of a proposed development will receive hand-delivered notices of upcoming Statutory Public Meetings, with a minimum of 20 days’ notice of the meeting date.
- Property owners residing outside of Port Hope but within the defined notification area will have their notices sent by courier.
Building Permit Payments and Planning Application Payments
Payments for building permits or planning applications can be made in person at the Development Services Department, located at 5 Mill Street. Alternatively, a courier service can be used to deliver payments.
Vendor Payments and Invoices
In some circumstances, vendors are paid by cheque through regular mail. These payments are being temporarily held at the Finance Department and can be picked up during regular business hours at Town Hall (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays). Please allow at least 3 weeks processing time and email Accounts Payable or contact the Accounts Payable Department by phone at 905-885-4544 x 2245 to arrange cheque pickup.
Vendors waiting on payments are encouraged to sign up for electronic funds transfer (EFT). To request an EFT form, email Accounts Payable. Vendors already paid through EFT should not experience disruption in payments.
Property Tax and Water and Wastewater Bill Payments
To avoid delays, residents are encouraged to sign up for eBilling. For more information, visit porthope.ca/ebilling. If you recently purchased a property within the Municipality of Port Hope, contact the Tax division to confirm the status of your tax account.
A reminder to residents that you can sign up for Virtual Town Hall. This online portal allows you to track, view, and pay your property tax and water and wastewater bills online.
Water and wastewater and property tax bill payments can also be made through the drop box located on the front door of Town Hall.
Parking Ticket Payments
Payments for parking tickets can be made:
- In Person: To pay in person, visit the Municipal Law Enforcement Office at 245 Ontario Street, Port Hope, Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
- By Deposit Box: You can pay for a parking ticket by dropping your payment off at one of the parking fine boxes located around town. Visit our parking payment page for deposit box locations.
Notices for unpaid parking tickets are sent via regular mail, which may be delayed due to the ongoing labour disruption. To avoid penalties and court-registered fines, please pay your parking tickets promptly.
Lottery Licenses and Freedom of Information Requests
Fee payments for lottery licenses and Freedom of Information requests can be made in person during regular business hours at Town Hall (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays).
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time. For any additional questions or concerns, please contact the Municipality of Port Hope at 905-885-4544 or visit www.porthope.ca.
