As previously noted in November 2023, Staff identified, through routine fire hydrant testing, that an upgrade to infrastructure supplying water to select fire hydrants on Highland Drive must be completed. The Municipality has retained CIMA+ to complete the design for the replacement of the water main along Highland Drive (from Victoria Street North to the Jack Burger Sports Complex). Construction is currently set to start on April 15, 2024, and completion is expected in July 2024.
Throughout the project, one lane of traffic will be maintained, with access for buses, schools, daycare, private driveways, and pedestrian traffic. Temporary traffic signals will be used to control traffic during this partial road closure. Water supply disruptions during construction will be minimal and communicated to property owners appropriately. The Municipality will directly contact affected residents or stakeholders if there is any disruption anticipated.
The project aims to ensure proper fire flows in the area as per fire standards. This work involves both the road itself and the boulevard. Some materials and equipment will be stored in the parking lot at the Jack Burger Sports Complex (JBSC). The best access to the JBSC will be via Cavan St, then west on Highland. Expect delays while traveling in this area due to the lane restrictions.
