Highland Drive, between the Jack Burger Sports Complex and Port Hope Public High School will remain closed this week to allow for critical enhancements to our watermain system. This full closure is necessary to ensure the safety of both the public and our construction teams.
As communicated last week, after careful evaluation of the field conditions, maintaining even a single lane of open traffic during this phase of construction is not safely feasible at this time. This decision was made to ensure the utmost safety of both our workers and the public.
When possible, construction crews will open one lane of traffic for the evenings, but this is dependent on the safety of the site after each working day.
Transit: Beginning Tuesday, April 30, Transit Route A will be servicing all stops. Riders can expect minor delays as the buses navigate around the closure to service each stop.
We understand the inconvenience this closure poses to residents in our community. Though the full closure was not anticipated, it is in the interest of public safety. Crews are currently ahead of schedule on this project and are progressing quicker than anticipated.
