Free Transit on Routes A and B During Walton Street Reconstruction
For Immediate Release
Tuesday, April 30, 2024 - Port Hope, ON
The Municipality of Port Hope is pleased to announce that there will be no transit fees on Transit Routes A and B within the Port Hope boundary effective Wednesday, May 1, 2024, through the completion of the Walton Street Reconstruction project. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to support local businesses and to promote environmental benefits through increased use of public transit.
Additionally, this fare suspension also applies to the ROLLS transit program, ensuring that all members of our community can benefit from free and accessible transportation options during this period.
“We are delighted to provide free transit on Routes A and B amidst the crucial reconstruction period,” notes Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “This initiative underscores our deep commitment to community support and the enhancement of everyone's quality of life. It presents an excellent chance for us to unite, bolster our local businesses, and make choices that benefit the environment.”
To further ease the impact of construction and enhance the local experience during this busy period, residents and visitors are encouraged to consider parking at designated lots outside of the immediate downtown area and utilize the free transit services to navigate around the downtown area. This approach will help alleviate the challenge of finding parking during the reconstruction and peak tourism times.
We encourage residents and visitors to take advantage of this temporary fare-free service, which not only supports our local economy but also promotes active transportation and reduces environmental impact.
As we work to enhance our community infrastructure, please plan your travels accordingly and enjoy the convenience of free transit on Routes A and B. Note that Route C – The Cobourg Express Shuttle – will continue to collect fares, according to the usual Transit Fee schedule.
