Former Ruth Clarke Board Lends Generous Support for Municipality of Port Hope TPRC Expansion
As the fundraising campaign for the Town Park Recreation Centre (TPRC) continues this summer, the Municipality of Port Hope is pleased to announce a generous donation from the former Ruth Clarke Activity Centre (RCAC) for Seniors Board, who have worked closely with staff on the vision for this project. They exemplified their support and kicked-off the “Growing Together” fundraising campaign by providing a generous donation of $4143.74.
“The saying ‘It takes a village’ is not just a cliché but a truth, and one that continues to be exhibited in Port Hope,” observes Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “The dedication and resolve of the former Ruth Clarke Activity Centre Board is an inspiration. With their assistance we will continue to grow together with this beautiful new space. On behalf of Council, I want to share our appreciation and thanks to all the members of the past Board for their time, commitment and for contributing to the campaign with their thoughtful donation to the Town Park Recreation Expansion Project.”
The TPRC expansion project, which has been themed “Growing Together,” broke ground in July 2022. The construction phase of the expansion is nearing completion. The project is now in phase two which includes renovations to the existing facility.
The entire Growing Together expansion project includes:
- Three new multipurpose program rooms of varying sizes to accommodate diverse programming.
- Renovation of existing multipurpose rooms to support various program uses.
- Designated social space and kitchenette designed to promote connection and engagement.
- Storage and administrative space to support program delivery.
- Additional accessible washrooms.
- Additional parking including accessible spaces.
“The Ruth Clarke Activity Centre Board and I are thrilled that the expansion of the Town Park Recreation Center has moved forward,” notes Peter Huffman, former Chair of the RCAC Board. “The creation of accessible, appropriate spaces for programs to meet the current and future needs of Port Hope’s seniors is exciting and we look forward to the opportunities this new space will present.
This important community strategic priority requires a funding strategy, including a $250,000 community fundraising campaign comprised of community donations, sponsorships, and event revenue.
