Flags Lowered to Honour Former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario David Onley
The flags* at Town Hall have been lowered today to half-mast to honour the life of former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario David Onley, who passed away on January 14, 2023, at the age of 72.
Following a successful career in broadcasting, The Honourable David Onley was appointed in 2007 as the 28th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and served for seven years. He was the first Lieutenant Governor with a physical disability to hold office and he was a dedicated advocate for accessibility throughout his tenure.
A state funeral for Mr. Onley takes place today in Toronto.
*Please note that due to the freezing temperatures, the Canadian flag is frozen and, despite several attempts, can not be lowered at this time. The municipal and Ontario flags are lowered to half-mast.
