Five Winners Selected for the Mayor’s Corner Drawing Contest

Five burgeoning artists have been selected as the winners of the Mayor’s Corner Drawing Contest; an initiative aimed at engaging youth ages 5 to 12 to draw a picture illustrating what they love about Port Hope.
“Selecting only five winners was a tough decision as we had lots of wonderful entries,” explains Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “The pictures are so well done, and they portray diverse perspectives of what our young residents love about Port Hope – from the Fair to the Ganaraska River, to their favourite local restaurant – there is quite a variety to choose from. This exercise allows us to see Port Hope through the lens of children and understand what they cherish about our community. I look forward to more engagement opportunities like this one in the future.”
The five winners of the contest are (click on the drawing title to view each child's drawing):
- Piper – age 10 - The Port Hope Fair
- Tegan – age 10 - River Scene
- Quinnten - age 7 - "My School"
- Elsa – age 7 - Farming
- Amelia – age 5 - Float your Fanny Down the Ganny
Each winner will receive a $30 gift card for a local retailer of their choice. Additionally, each child has been invited to attend the Council Meeting on December 5 to be formally recognized by the Mayor and Council. The drawings submitted by the winners will be on display at Town Hall beginning the week of December 4, 2023.
The Mayor’s Corner Drawing Contest was launched to celebrate Local Government Week, October 15 to 21, 2023. Local Government Week is dedicated to increasing public and youth awareness of the amazing opportunities that exist within the sector.
