Fire Department Receives Superior Water Tanker Shuttle Accreditation
The Municipality of Port Hope is pleased to announce that the Fire and Emergency Services Division has once again received Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation for both residential and industrial level service. The accreditation program, under the Fire Protection Survey Services, recognizes a fire department's ability to shuttle water with tanker trucks to fight fires in areas far away from municipal fire hydrants.
The two main criteria for this accreditation are:
- Ability to deliver a minimum of 900 litres/minute of water within five (5) minutes of the first pumper arriving at the fire scene.
- The Fire Department must maintain the water flow uninterrupted for two (2) hours.
“This accreditation speaks to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the members of the Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services,” notes Jason Williams, Director of Protective Services for the Municipality of Port Hope. “We would also like to thank the members of the neighbouring Fire Services who assisted us during the accreditation evaluation. We are committed to the safety of our community and residents, and we will continue to strive for a fire safe Port Hope.”
This Accreditation has the potential to benefit residents by possibly reducing insurance premiums. By presenting a copy of the Accreditation Certificate, residents and businesses that are not located within close proximity of fire hydrants may be entitled to the same insurance premiums as residents and businesses that are on municipal hydrant systems. It is important to check with your insurance provider.
The accreditation period is five years. To request a copy of the Accreditation Certificate, please contact fire administration by email or by phone at 905-753-2230.
