Daytime Clean Air Centres in Port Hope
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (HKPR) District Health Unit has advised that continued poor air quality is expected throughout the week due to the smoke from wildfires burning in Ontario and Quebec. A reminder that residents may visit any of the following facilities during operating hours as a space to find temporary relief from the air quality concerns.
- Port Hope Public Library Mary J. Benson Branch, 31 Queen Street
- Jack Burger Sports Complex, 60 Highland Drive
- Town Park Recreation Centre, 62 McCaul Street
According to the Health Unit, the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) has reached a level of 7-10 in the HKPR District Health Unit area, indicating high-risk air pollution levels that could pose potential health risks. The air quality levels may change rapidly, and the Municipality will continue to share the information provided by the Health Unit as it becomes available.
The at-risk population, including seniors, pregnant individuals, infants, young children, people who work outdoors, and those engaging in strenuous outdoor exercise, are more susceptible to health problems when exposed. If you are in the at-risk population, please reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors.
The general population should reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities if experiencing symptoms such as coughing and throat irritation.
More information can be found on the Health Unit website.
