Council Meeting Highlights - September 21
Below is a summary of key items discussed at the Municipality of Port Hope Council and Committee of the Whole Meetings held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. The agendas and staff reports are available on the Agendas and Minutes page of our website. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this meeting was held electronically via video conference.
Council Meeting:
The following are highlights from the Council Meeting.
Current Council Meeting Format
After consideration of a staff report at the Committee of the Whole meeting on September 7, 2021, regarding the current Council Meeting format, Council supported option #1 – an option to remain status quo.
As such, Council, Committee of the Whole, and Public Meetings under the Planning Act continue to be held virtually without alteration.
Council also directed staff to provide a further review of the meeting format at the November 16, 2021 Committee of the Whole meeting with updated options for future consideration.
Council Remuneration
Council directed staff to engage Marianne Love Consulting to conduct a Council compensation review using the same methodology as approved for the staff compensation review.
Street Light Conversion Project
Council authorized the RealTerm Energy proposal regarding the Street Light Conversion Energy Project to convert approximately 147 High Pressure Sodium cobra head light fixtures to LED fixtures in 2021, funded by the Transportation Division operating budget.
Rotary Centennial Project
Council supported the Rotary Centennial Project and the development of the fish ladder park area. The draft concept is posted on myporthope.ca for public comment until September 28, 2021.
Committee of the Whole:
The following are highlights from the Committee of the Whole Meeting.
Delegation – Dress Purple Day
Erin Beatty and Duane Durham from Highland Shores Children’s Aid provided a delegation regarding Dress Purple Day in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Delegation – Update on Highland Drive landfill remediation
Mark Galanter, Project Manager, Historic Waste Project Management from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories provided an update on the Highland Drive landfill remediation projects being done by the PHAI.
