Candlelight Walk and Santa Claus Parade Updates and Reminders
As the 2024 Candlelight Festival kick-off weekend approaches, we kindly ask all residents and visitors to keep the following in mind:
Candlelight Walk
The Candlelight Walk takes place Friday, November 29. It will begin at Walton and Pine Streets (155 Walton St.) at 6:00 p.m. This year, the Candlelight Walk also celebrates the resilience of our community and downtown businesses during Phase 2 of the Walton Street reconstruction. The walk will mark the unofficial end of this phase, with only a few remaining tasks left before its official completion.
During the walk and evening events, the downtown construction zone will remain closed to non-event vehicle traffic. The procession will travel down Walton Street with a police escort, concluding at Memorial Park for the community celebration and light display.
Shops will stay open late for the HBIA’s Block Friday: Moonlight Madness. Please exercise caution along the sidewalks and on Walton Street, as the area remains a closed-off construction site. Follow all posted signs, pylons, and barricades to ensure your safety while enjoying the festivities and supporting local businesses. Critical Mass Art will also be illuminating buildings on John Street with projection art.
Free transit will operate late, until 11:00 p.m., to help residents travel safely around town.
Santa Claus Parade
The 88th annual Santa Claus Parade is coming to town on Saturday, November 30 at 1:00 p.m. The parade will start at the intersection of Ridout Street and Bramley Street and will be led down Walton Street by police escort to Queen Street, and then south to Augusta Street. Residents and visitors are reminded that parking is not permitted along the parade route.
If viewing the parade along Walton Street, please exercise caution. The interlock brick along the curbs may not be fully installed, and spectators will see striped cones lining the route. These cones are there for your safety—please do not move or remove them and take caution when walking around the area. The parade route spans 1.2 km, providing plenty of space for spectators to spread out and enjoy the event safely.
This year's parade theme, "Miracle on Walton Street," celebrates the wrapping up of Phase 2 of the Walton Street Reconstruction project, just in time for the festivities. The parade is a vibrant community celebration, and this year it spotlights the return of activities to Walton Street.
Please be advised that during both the Candlelight Walk and Santa Claus Parade, a team from Enigma Research will be conducting surveys for an economic impact study for both events. If you are approached by a surveyor wearing a purple volunteer lanyard, please consider giving some of your time to complete the survey.
