Winter Storm Warning
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for our region, expected late this week and into the holiday weekend. It is likely that heavy amounts of precipitation, flash freezing temperatures and high winds will occur.
Residents are reminded to be prepared for winter storms and power outages, which should include a plan and sufficient supplies to last for a minimum of 72 hours. Visit our emergency preparedness webpage for more information and suggestions on how you can prepare.
If you experience an extended power outage, note that holiday hours will take effect in the Municipality starting at noon on December 23, but the Jack Burger Sports Complex will be open on a modified schedule throughout the holidays and can be accessed for use of shower and restroom facilities. Other amenities, such as the Town Park Recreation Centre and the Port Hope Public Library, can also be accessed during operating hours to charge cell phones and escape the cold.
Many local businesses will also allow you to charge your phone or devices during business hours, if needed.
Roads crews and emergency personnel will continue to provide services, unless otherwise communicated. As always, if you are in a life-threatening situation, call 911.
Electricity outage information is supplied by our providers Hydro One and Elexicon. To contact Hydro One by phone, call 1-800-434-1235 and for Elexicon, call 1-866-579-6819. Be sure to stay connected with your provider during an outage to get the most up-to-date information from their websites, outage maps, and/or social media channels.
If the situation is a major weather event, emergency information will be available on the municipal website or sent out via emergency notification networks such as RAVE Mobility Safety.
Sign up online to ensure that you receive a notification.
To help spread this emergency preparedness message, the Municipality has also reached out to our local radio to share the information. Please share with your friends, neighbours, and networks, too!
