Sediment Removal at the Fish Ladder
We have been advised that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry will be conducting sediment removal at Corbett’s Dam (the Fish Ladder) to improve fish passage at the Ganaraska fishway.
This work has begun and will take place over the course of approximately seven days. It will involve the use of an excavator to remove the sediment that has deposited over several years at the upstream end of the fishway. This sediment will be extracted, isolated, and tested for contamination and disposed of according to the results of the testing. With this sediment removed, migratory fish species will be able to use the structure more effectively as they make their way upstream to spawning habitat.
