New Municipal Maintenance By-law Adopted
Notice: This public notice is being released again to correct errors in the original version.
At their regular Council Meeting on February 18, Council approved the new Municipal Maintenance By-law. This new By-law replaces the outdated Snow and Ice Clearing By-law which was enacted 1997.
This updated By-law addresses community concerns regarding uncleared sidewalks, the protection of municipal trees on boulevards, and maintenance standards for boulevards and hazard-free zones near sidewalks.
Key changes residents should be aware of:
- Sidewalks adjacent to all private properties (occupied or vacant), must now be clear of snow by midnight the day after a snowfall.
- Minimum maintenance standards and restrictions now apply to boulevards next to private properties, including regulations for trees on those boulevards.
- There are now dedicated guidelines for keeping boulevards safe from debris, to prevent tripping hazards.
