Flags fly at half-mast honouring children whose remains were found at BC residential school
Flags at Municipality of Port Hope facilities will fly at half-mast in honour of the 215 children whose remains were discovered on the grounds of the former Kamloops Residential School in the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation territory, just outside of Kamloops, British Columbia.
“News of this unthinkable tragedy impacts people in our own community and across our Nation,” states Bob Sanderson, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. “Our thoughts remain with the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation, and with all survivors, families and communities impacted by the residential school system.”
Mayor Sanderson has asked that the flags are flown at half-mast for 215 hours; one hour representing each life lost.
