As the impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) evolves, the Municipality of Port Hope continue to assess our operations and make necessary changes to our schedules and programming, where required, to protect the health and well-being of the community. National Youth Week

The Municipality of Port Hope supports National Youth Week May 1-7, 2020 which is dedicated to the celebration of youth. It is a celebration of youth and their active participation in the community, through recreation, sport, civic engagement, art, volunteerism and leadership. Everyday youth are involved in meaningful activities and National Youth week is about honouring their involvement. Thank you to all the youth contributing to this great community everyday.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture has some fun and engaging virtual opportunities for youth to participate in. Below is a list of the activities as well as some links to other great opportunities.

Kick Covid

To Kick Off National Youth Week the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture challenges you to hackey a soccer ball more times than Leanne Clarke, Child and Youth Coordinator. Try to bounce a soccer ball as many times as you can using your legs, feet and head without it hitting the ground. Check it out on Instagram and keep the challenge going by trying to beat the last one to post. Post using #KickCovidPH

Photo Scavenger Hunt

In celebration of National Youth Week, we encourage all youth ages 12-19 to participate in a photo scavenger hunt! Attached below is the fun scavenger hunt. This is an independent activity and social distancing guidelines are to be followed. Post your finds to Instagram #scavengerhuntNYW

Youth Action Committee

As part of National Youth Week, May 1-7, The Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture would like to take this time to recognize some outstanding youth within our community. The Youth Action Committee is a group of Youth who meet and plan for opportunities for teens within the Municipality. They are enthusiastic and work hard to offer new opportunities for youth in Port Hope. These individuals include Abby H, Kaiya C, Quintin S, Livi H and Alissa F. Thank you for contributing towards your community!

2.Canada’s Wonderland - For National Youth Week go to Canada’s Wonderland…..virtually! Click on the link and go for a ride
3.Tennis Challenge - The Port Hope Racquet Club has suggested these great tennis exercises to improve your tennis skills and be ready for when the courts open.
4.Crash Course - Exercise your mind doing some online learning

Free Youth Centre Drop In (Starting January 1, 2020)

Starting January 1st 2020 all youth (ages 9-18 years) will be able to stop into the youth centre for free.

Drop in to the youth centre and play ping pong, foosball, video games or board games while hanging out with your friends.  Right outside the door of the youth centre is the skate park that hosts many fun events.  Children under the ages of 9 must be accompanied by a caregiver 14 years+.

Location: Town Park Recreation Centre

Youth Centre Hours:

3:00pm-6:00pm for ages 9 years+
6:00pm-8:00pm for ages 13 years+
Saturday and Sunday
1:00pm-6:00pm for ages 9 years+

The Municipality of Port Hope is proud to be designated as a Platinum Youth Friendly Community through the Playworks Partnership, actively supporting and providing opportunities for the growth and development of our Youth (ages 13 - 19) through play.

What is a Youth Friendly Community?

A Youth Friendly Community encourages play for youth in their community. Play is any non-school activity that has elements of choice, leads to satisfaction, and encourages progressive learning and enjoyment. Activities can include - but are not limited to recreation, sport, leisure, arts, drama, dance, civic engagement, youth activism, volunteerism, social clubs and youth leadership.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture recognizes and appreciates the many community partners it works with to create opportunities for youth play.

The Youth Action Committee (YAC) is composed of driven and enthusiastic leaders from ages 12- 18 years of age who strive to see positive development toward youth recreation and culture throughout the Municipality of Port Hope.

Youth Drop-In 

Cameco Gym Drop-in- Drop in to the gym and play some basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, badminton or pickleball. It is a great place to meet up with your friends and get some physical activity. Children under the age of 9 must be accompanied by a caregiver
15 yrs+. Location: Town Park Recreation Centre

Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 3:30-5:00pm

Ages: 9+

Fee: $1.00 (17 years and under)

Family Pickleball- Drop in for a fun evening of recreational Pickleball and stay active as a family.

Dates: September 18, 2019 - April 22, 2020
Wednesdays 6:30-8:00pm

Ages: 10+

The Zone- Safe space for youth to drop-in with peers for a variety of activities.  Location: Town Park Recreation Centre

Winter 2 2020 (9 weeks): Monday-Friday 4:00-6:00pm

Ages: 12-15


Youth Drop-in- A weekly drop-in for youth which provides a safe space that includes various activities and food. Offered in partnership with Municipality of Port Hope, Port Hope Community Centre, Rebound Child & Youth Services and Port Hope Police. Offered Sept 2019-June 2020. Location: Community Health Centres of Northumberland, 99 Toronto Road, Port Hope

Tuesdays 2:40-4:30pm

Ages: 12+


Hoops- Recreational basketball drop-in for youth. Location: Town Park Recreation Centre

Winter 2 2020: Wednesdays 4:00-5:00pm

Ages: 13-18

Fee: $1 (17 and under); $3.75 (18)


Port Hope Skate Park

The Port Hope Skate Park was a new addition to the Town Park in 2010. The park is open to anyone and has been a great addition for all riders in our community and other communities around us. The Skate Park is open every day from dawn until dusk, helmets and protective equipment are strongly encouraged. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for upcoming events in the Spring and Summer.
