Municipality of Port Hope Accepting Nominations for Annual Civic Awards Ceremony
For Immediate Release
Friday, January 17, 2020 - Port Hope, ON
Civic pride is in the air as nominations for the Municipality of Port Hope Civic Award Program are being collected, in advance of the upcoming Awards Ceremony, an annual event that recognizes individuals and groups who have contributed to the vitality of the community.
“The Civic Awards program provides an opportunity for the Municipality to recognize the talents and efforts of our community members in a public and open forum,” noted Bob Sanderson, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. “Community volunteerism is a cornerstone of this community and I would encourage individuals to submit nominations forms for all of those who should be celebrated for their dedication and commitment to the Municipality.”
Established by Council in 1987, the Civic Awards nomination program is designed to highlight the variety of elements that make up Port Hope’s inspiring culture by acknowledging those who contribute time, talent and resources towards improving the quality of life in the community. A broad range of award categories are open to receive nominations: Outstanding Citizen, Outstanding Youth, Agriculture, Arts & Culture, Athletics, Community Service, Inspiration, Philanthropy, and Environment.
“Submitting a thoughtful nomination is a sincere way to applaud the successes and generosity of your friends, neighbours and colleagues,” says Committee Chair Keri-Lee Kroeger. “The Civic Awards Committee calls on this community to help us identify and salute Port Hope’s unsung heroes, exceptional achievers, and tremendously talented.”
Nominations are the key element to the Civic Awards Program. Last year, 88 individuals and team members were recognized at the ceremony, with Madison Taylor receiving the Outstanding Youth award.
Nominations can be submitted online, or through regular mail. Nomination forms, as well as more information about the Civic Awards Program, eligibility and award category criteria can be found online at porthope.ca/civic-awards. Entries will be received until close of business on Thursday, March 5, 2020.
The Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 7 p.m. in the Cameco Capitol Arts Centre. Admission is free, refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.
