We sadly acknowledge the passing of the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, former Prime Minister of Canada who died on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the age of 84.

Half-Load Restrictions Begin March 1

During the spring thaw, most rural roads become too soft to withstand the weight of a fully loaded truck, regardless of the number of axles.
To reduce damage to our roads during this time of year, weight restrictions of five tonnes per axle (half-loads) on all rural roads within the Municipality of Port Hope are imposed from March 1 to April 30.
The restriction timeline may be altered as conditions are monitored.

Tourism Strategy Engagement

Public engagement is now underway for the upcoming Tourism Strategy.
In a meeting on June 6, 2023, Council instructed staff to oversee the evaluation, recommendation, and possible adoption of a suitable tourism delivery model in Port Hope.
The Municipality has engaged In Good Inc. to examine leading practices in similar municipalities and suggest a plan for the delivery and financing of tourism in Port Hope.

Reaper’s Image Productions – the production company that filmed here in spring 2023 - is returning to Port Hope to film more scenes for the upcoming project, “Greetings from Fairview”. The production company has now fulfilled the requirements and conditions for film permitting, and the Municipality is issuing a film permit, which includes road closures for this production.

Filming Activities on Lakeshore and Baulch Road – February 24

Filming activities will be taking place along Lakeshore Road (between Brand Road and Strachan Street) on February 24 beginning at 5:00 p.m. and continuing overnight until 2:00 a.m. On-street parking is not permitted in the filming area. The road will remain open but there will be intermittent traffic stops on Lakeshore Road and Baulch Road to accommodate filming.
