An update to residents of the Wellington Street Fire: June 1, 2018

The Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services has completed their investigation with the assistance of the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal & Emergency Management.

As such, the property was released to the property owner, which is a standard procedure after Fire Services has completed their investigations.

The property owner continues to stabilize the scene through their insurance company. Once an engineering report has been reviewed and approved by the Building Department, ensuring the safe entry to the building to residents, the property owner will set up site visits with tenants who are looking to recover their personal possessions from their occupancies.

Residents are encouraged to speak with the building owner, who will advise when access to the building is granted, so that they can begin to schedule their attendance in their occupancies.

Assessment of financial eligibility for emergency assistance is available through Northumberland County.  Individuals can contact the County’s Centralized Intake Unit at 905-372-6846 or 1-800-354-7050, ext. 2468.

Residents with questions regarding insurance information or claims may contact The Help and Legal Centre of Northumberland.
