Fuel Spill Contained at Centre Pier Site

Residents are advised that at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, Staff at the Municipality of Port Hope was made aware of a fuel spill that took place east of the Centre Pier, where a sewer re-lining project is currently underway. The fuel leaked from a generator that is being used in conjunction with this project.

The Municipality of Port Hope Inspector is on site, the spill has been contained, and remediation of the spill is underway, which includes the use of floating absorbent buoys in the River. There is no impact to water treatment operations or drinking water quality. The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has been made aware of the spill by Municipal Staff.

The Municipality will continue to keep the community updated, as more information becomes available.
