What's On In Port Hope: Free Activities, Events and Recreation All Summer Long

Summer is in full swing and there is no shortage of events, activities and recreation available to all throughout the Municipality. Below is a list of the highlights of free summer fun in Port Hope.

Outdoor Movie Series
Wednesday August 2: TROLLS – Memorial Park
Wednesday August 16: LEGO BATMAN – Memorial Park

Two more screenings are scheduled for this family-friendly event that is popular for all ages. Show time is at dusk and the local company Poppity Pop Pop Popcorn will be serving up hot and fresh popcorn. Bring a blanket and lawn chair, and enjoy a family movie under the stars. (Rain venue is at Town Park - 62 McCaul Street).

Stretch Out Sundays
Sunday, August 6 at 9 a.m. – Memorial Park
Sunday, August 20 at 9 a.m. – Memorial Park

Soothe your mind and reset your body and soul with yoga in the park. All ages, abilities and skill levels are welcome to come find their centre in downtown Port Hope. The session will transfer to the Town Park (62 McCaul Street) if the weather is feeling unbalanced.

Cameco Summer Bandshell Concert Series
Each Thursday night in Memorial Park at 7pm

Head down to the bandshell at Memorial park on Thursday evenings for live music in the park.
Energized by Cameco Corporation and hosted by the Northumberland Sunrise Rotary Club.

Annual Arts Festival 2017
Saturday, August 12 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. behind Town Hall

The 14th annual Arts Festival returns to the Port Hope Farmers’ Market. The event is a celebration of art, agriculture and community, with live and local entertainment from the bandshell, a summer BBQ, a butter tart showcase, interactive activities for the kids, a reinterpreted Green Street Party and rounding out the day with an ONtour 150 concert, beginning at 6 p.m.

Free Swimming at the Jack Burger Sports Complex
Thursday, July 27; Thursday, August 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31; and Monday August 28
2:30- 4:30pm.

Thanks to Tim Hortons for sponsoring seven free public swims this summer at the Jack Burger Sports Complex. Join us at 60 Highland Drive to beat the summer heat.


Annual Family Fishing Derby
Monday, August 21 – 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

With sponsorship from Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire, the Municipality of Port Hope and the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority, are hosting a catch and release Family Fishing Derby for children less than 17 years of age. The Derby will have the following categories: Longest Fish, Shortest Fish, Widest Fish and Most Fish Caught. Prizes will be awarded in all categories.

Port Hope’s Parks and Trails
Summer is a great time to explore the many parks and trails throughout the Municipality. The Ganny Bear, a 6 foot, 400 pound chainsaw wood carving is Port Hope’s newest sculpture and can be found along the trail, close to Barrett Street. Port Hope’s trail map and outdoor adventure information is available on the waterfront, marina and trails page.
