Below is a summary of key items discussed at the Municipality of Port Hope Special Council Meeting held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. The full agenda and staff reports are available on the Council Portal.

Authorized Property Acquisition – 74 Queen Street
At the Special Council meeting, Council authorized the Agreement of Purchase and Sale between Pratola Enterprises Limited and the Corporation of the Municipality of Port Hope for Lot lands legally described Part Town Plot Lot 47, Stewart Plan, municipally known as 74 Queen Street. This address is also commonly known as “Lakeland Place”.

Appointment of Director, Works and Engineering
In the In-Camera Session of the Special Council meeting, Council voted to appoint Acting-Director of the Works and Engineering department, Jeanette Davidson, as Director of the Department - a full-time, permanent position. Ms. Davidson has served as Acting-Director since March 2018.

New Community Development Department
Council authorized the job description, position, and recruitment of a Director of Community Development and allowed for the Municipal Staff Organizational Chart to be updated to reflect the creation of a Department of Community Development. The new Department will include the current Marketing and Tourism Division and the Planning Division.

At the meeting, Council also authorized the funds required for this position in 2018 to be drawn from the contingency operating budget.

Sign By-Law Variance
Sidestreet Developments Inc. was granted a variance to Sections 5.4.4 and 5.4.5 to By-law 17/2005 being a By-law Regulating Signs in the Municipality of Port Hope. This variance permits the installation of a developers sign to a maximum of 60m² to be affixed to the front facade of the property at 81 Walton Street, with a zero setback from the property line, for a period of six months.

Minutes from this meeting will be available pending approval at the next Council meeting on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at which point they will become the official record of the meeting.
