Residents of the Municipality of Port Hope can expect to see a new accessible transit vehicle on the roads next week, when the ROLLS specialized transit van is unveiled on Tuesday, November 13, which is also the first day that the service will be fully owned and operated by the Municipality.
“We are very excited to debut the new ROLLS specialized transit service vehicle and launch the ROLLS service as an in-house operation by members of our team in the Transit Division,” noted Jeanette Davidson, Director of Works and Engineering for the Municipality of Port Hope. “We have been working toward delivering our transit services to our residents from a centralized, on-site location and we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone and look forward to the implementation of the rest of the new Municipal buses in the very near future.”
ROLLS specialized transit is an existing service that is available to any resident of the Municipality of Port Hope who is unable to use regular public transit due to a physical disability. The new mobility van is fully equipped with a wheelchair ramp, room for an accessibility support companion, and boarding and de-boarding assistance from the transit driver. The service is only available in the urban area.
Residents who are eligible to use the ROLLS service are encouraged to call 905-885-9891 for membership details and to obtain an application form. The number listed above will also be used by members to book a ride reservation, beginning on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
