Municipality of Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services Administration Relocation to Fire Station 1 Beginning March 7

For Immediate Release

Monday, March 5, 2018 - Port Hope, ON

As the finishing touches are made to Fire Station 1, which is currently under renovation, Municipality of Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services administrative staff will begin the process of moving their office from their current location at the Canton Municipal building to their new home at Station 1, located at 245 Ontario Street, with the move slated to take place from March 7-9.

“We are looking forward to getting settled in at our new location quickly and with little disruption to our core business,” noted C. Ryan Edgar, Fire Chief and Director of Fire and Emergency Services.

The administrative office will be closed during the move, from Wednesday, March 7 until Friday March 9, but will be fully functioning again on Monday, March 12 at the new location on Ontario Street.

The relocation of the administrative staff will include a few changes to some service locations for residents:

• Burn Permits will be issued from the Fire Administration office at the Port Hope Fire Hall located at 245 Ontario Street, during regular business hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• Tax payments will continue to be accepted at Town Hall located at 56 Queen Street, at banking institutions, through online banking and through pre-authorized chequing. Tax payments will no longer be collected at the Canton Municipal office.

• Garbage tags will continue to be available at Town Hall, the Garden Hill General Store, Gilmer’s Home Hardware, Davis’ Your Independent Grocer, Metro, Giant Tiger and Pharmasave.

• Dog tags will continue to be available at Town Hall, 56 Queen Street and at Municipal Animal Services located at 2363 Theatre Rd S.

During the administrative move, Fire and Emergency Services in the Municipality will not be impacted, and all Fire Stations will continue to service to the area, as usual. Questions about the relocation can be directed to Fire Administration Office at 905-753-2230.

The Canton facility is slated to be the new home of the rural library branch, with preparations underway to coordinate a move at a later date this year. More information will be circulated to the public as it becomes available.
