Municipality of Port Hope Adopts Strategic Plan 2019-2022

Financial sustainability and environmental responsibility outlined as focus for Council and Staff

For Immediate Release

Friday, May 24, 2019 - Port Hope, ON

At the regular Council meeting on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, Municipality of Port Hope Council officially adopted the Strategic Plan 2019-2022, by Resolution 42/2019.

“We are proud to present our Strategic Plan so early in our term of office,” notes Bob Sanderson, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. “Now that we have the roadmap outlining the priorities of the Municipality over the next several years, we are able to start implementing the projects, initiatives and programs, with clear direction to achieve our objectives and goals.”

The Plan identifies six priorities for the Municipality, which were established through the robust strategic planning consultations that took place throughout the first quarter of 2019. These priorities include: Sustainable Infrastructure, Waterfront and Riverwalk Enhancements, Intentional Growth Planning, Multi-generational Community Opportunities, Affordable Housing, and Corporate Efficiencies. Each priority is complemented by corresponding objectives that will ensure that Municipal Staff and Council can track progress and reach the goals set out in the plan.

New mission and vision statements were also penned during the strategic planning process and include elements that reflect the priorities and themes that were highlighted as important to Port Hope residents and business community members throughout the development of the Strategic Plan.

“Our mission and vision statements will be used as the lens that guides us in every decision that we make at the Council table,” continues Mayor Sanderson. “I liken our vision statement to looking through binoculars on a journey -– we know where we want to be and can see the destination, but we need this strategic plan, and the priorities set out in it, to lead us there. Through our mission, we will ensure that we will realize our vision in a way that consistently considers financial sustainability and environmental responsibility for each initiative.”

The Strategic Plan, 2019-2022 is available online at, or in hard copy at the Corporate Services Department, located in Town Hall (56 Queen Street). Residents may also pick up a copy of the Plan at the upcoming Municipal Expo, taking place on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Jack Burger Sports Complex, 60 Highland Drive.
