Filming of Stephen King's "It" in Port Hope

Third Act Productions Inc. in partnership with Warner Bros. and New Line EntertainmeNovel cover of IT by Stephen Kingnt will be filming scenes in Port Hope for the feature film “IT”.  The movie is based on Stephen King’s timeless novel “It” set in the summer of 1989, and follows seven young friends as they battle an evil presence lurking beneath their small town, which hunts children by using their greatest fears against them.

Filming will take place in various locations in the downtown and around Port Hope between Monday, July 11 and Friday, July 15.  Downtown Port Hope has been set dressed to represent ‘Derry, Maine’ in 1989.  American flags are flying and some business names have been changed but we are still Port Hope and we are still open for business during filming!


Filming Schedule 

Walton Street (from Ontario Street to the bridge) and Queen Street (to Memorial Park) will be set dressed with picture cars from 1989 starting on Sunday, July 10 after 7pm. 

Queen Street from Walton to approximately 20 Queen Street will be reserved for picture vehicles and access when filming at the Capitol Theatre. Click below for additional information on filming locations each day (schedule subject to change):

Exterior filming locations:

  • Location 1 Walton Street and Queen Street Intersection (early morning)
  • Location 2 The Alley/Lane beside Gould’s Footwear (26 Walton Street)
  • Location 3 Brogden’s Lane behind 16 – 22 Walton Street
  • Location 4 Exterior and Interior of Capitol Theatre
  • Location 5 Hagerman Street between Walton Street and the dead end. 

Exterior filming locations:

  • Location 1 Mill Street and Walton Street Intersection (early morning). Walton Street from Mill Street to Ontario Street will be set dressed with picture cars. A Street Occupancy Permit has been issued to allow for vehicles to be parked on the east side of Mill Street from Dorset Street to Walton Street – maintaining access to all businesses located along the east side of Mill Street.

  • Location 2 Alley/Lane beside Gould’s Footwear (26 Walton Street) and Brogden’s Lane behind 16 – 22 Walton Street. Production vehicles will be parked in Brogden’s Lane.

  • Location 3 Rene Racine Bridge (Walton Street). Picture vehicles will remain on Rene Racine Bridge for the duration of the day. 

Exterior filming locations:

  • Location 1 Queen Street from Walton Street to Memorial Park

  • Location 2 Memorial Park. All parking around Memorial Park will be set dressed with picture vehicles for the duration of the day – including the east rows of the free Municipal lots on Elias Street.  Memorial Park will be the scene of a ‘4th of July Celebration’.

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE: Queen Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from Walton Street to Augusta Street, 7:00am to 1:00pm to facilitate filming on Queen Street and Memorial Park.  Pedestrian access and accessibility access will be accommodated throughout the closure to facilitate access to businesses on Queen Street.

Exterior & Interior filming locations:

  • Location 1 Walton Street from Pine Street to Queen Street (early morning). Walton Street from Pine Street to Ontario Street will be set dressed with picture vehicles starting on Wednesday July 13th at 7pm.

  • Location 2 Watson’s Pharmacy, corner of Walton Street and Ontario Street (exterior & interior). A Street Occupancy Permit has been issued to allow for a camera to be placed on Ontario Street at the intersection to facilitate filming exterior scenes in front of Watson’s. Walton Street from Ontario Street to Queen Street will be set dressed with picture vehicles. Exterior scenes of Watson’s Pharmacy will be shot from Lent Lane

Exterior & filming with drones:

  • Location 1 Drone shots - King Street to Walton Street to Ontario Street (early morning). Walton Street from Mill Street to Ontario Street will be set dressed with picture vehicles during drone filming only.

  • Location 2 Drone Shots - Queen Street from Robertson Street to Walton Street (early morning). Queen Street from Robertson Street to Walton Street will be set dressed with picture vehicles.

  • Location 3 John Street between Hayward and Alexander Street.

  • Location 4 Town Hall, 56 Queen Street
  • Location 5 Memorial Park Cenotaph
  • Location 6 Augusta Street between Pine Street and Queen Street, 2nd unit between 11:00am and 1:00pm
  • Location 7 Shots of Paul Bunyan in Memorial Park
  • Location 8 Victoria Street and Sherbourne Street

** Please Note ** Port Hope Police Services will be onsite at various filming locations each day to facilitate intermittent traffic stoppages (1 – 3 minutes).  Emergency Access will be maintained at all times.


Transit - Notice of Possible Delays 

Monday, July 11 - Friday, July 15, 2016
Transit users may experience slight delays due to intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 3 minutes during filming in downtown Port Hope.

Wednesday, July 13, 2016 
Queen Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from Walton Street to Augusta Street from 7am - 1pm. The Transit service on Route A will approach the Town Hall stop via John St south during this time.

Parking

Residents and visitors to the downtown may experience some intermittent traffic stoppage between 1 – 3 minutes while the cameras are rolling. 

All metered (paid) parking has been purchased by Third Act Productions Inc. from July 11 – 15.  Some of the parking will be required for picture vehicles and production vehicles but the remainder of the parking will be available FREE of charge to the general public to alleviate any inconvenience as a result of filming.  The Elias Street pay and display lot is also included as a free parking option.
