Councillor Karen O'HaraKaren hails from Port Hope and is a proud graduate of St. Anthony's School and Port Hope High. As the first co-op student in her school, her placement was at a local law firm and it was there that she began to understand the wealth of knowledge that one can earn by watching and listening to others; a key skill that she has honed over the years. Karen rounded out her education at Humber College in Toronto.

Karen’s previous work experience includes employment at Trinity College School during high school and College, Travelers Insurance (Toronto) after college and in 1986 she started work at ABC Electro Powder Coating as Office Manager, where she is still employed today.

Local volunteerism is important to Karen and she has been engaged in community activities throughout the Municipality for decades. She started volunteering in her home town as a baseball coach, eventually coordinating The Port Hope Girls Softball Association for many years. She was asked to join the Port Hope Kinette Club, where she earned the position of Deputy Governor representing the entire Zone and District. Karen also served many years as a Director for the Port Hope and District Chamber of Commerce, and was named president in her final year with the organization. At the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #30, Karen held many executive positions and was honoured with the Legionnaire of the Year Award.

Karen also has previous municipal government experience, serving on two previous Councils for the Municipality of Port Hope, from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2007 to 2010.

Karen is the former Chair of The Port Hope Cemetery Board, and former Chair of Heritage Port Hope and Heritage Incentive Advisory Committee. She is currently the Chair of the Candlelight Christmas Committee and the Port Hope Santa Claus Parade Committee and Executive Member and Social Director for the Northumberland Sunrise Rotary Club.
